La réponse courte
Toronto votes on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. You will vote for a mayor, your ward councillor, and (if eligible) a school board trustee. This guide covers who can vote, key dates, and how voting works. Candidate platforms are compared in a separate guide.
Can you vote? The newcomer answer
To vote in Toronto's municipal election you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on election day, and a resident of Toronto (or a non-resident who owns or rents property in Toronto, or the spouse of such a person). You must show ID with your name and Toronto address.
Permanent residents cannot vote in Ontario municipal elections — citizenship is required. This surprises many newcomers. If you are a PR, you can still attend debates, read platforms, and volunteer for campaigns, but you cannot cast a ballot.

No. Ontario municipal elections require Canadian citizenship. PRs, work-permit holders, and international students cannot vote.
I just became a citizen. Am I on the voter list?
Check with the City Clerk or use MyVote. If you're not on the list, you can generally still vote by bringing qualifying ID to your voting place.
