Olivia Chow (incumbent)

Background: Mayor of Toronto since winning the 2023 by-election; previously a Toronto city councillor (1992–2006) and federal MP (2006–2014).

Housing: Continue a city-led development model with a goal of 65,000 rent-controlled homes by 2030; cut developer fees in exchange for affordable units; zoning reforms for multiplexes and transit-oriented development; a $2.15-million bad-landlord task force under RentSafeTO; supports higher taxes on vacant and luxury homes.

Transit: TTC fares frozen (unchanged since 2023); free rides after 40 trips per month starting 2027; 200,000 additional TTC service hours in the 2026 budget; new subway cars for Line 2 funded with provincial and federal partners.

Tenant protection: A renoviction bylaw to stop evictions disguised as renovations; expanded Rent Bank funding; the MURA program helping non-profits buy rental buildings to keep them affordable.

Brad Bradford

Background: City Councillor for Ward 19 Beaches—East York since 2018; professional urban planner; former Chair of the Planning and Housing Committee. He is not seeking re-election as councillor in order to run for mayor.

Campaign themes: Crime, Congestion, and Cost of living, plus cleanliness and global competitiveness.

Housing: Favours partnering with non-profit and market builders over a city-led builder model; continue streamlining approvals and updating guidelines; a three-part renter plan ("Keep your home. Cool your home. Build more homes") including a public dashboard for renoviction enforcement and a guaranteed cool room for renters without rent hikes; clearer rules and earlier funding for non-profit rental builders.

Taxes and costs: Against raising taxes on vacant and luxury homes; promises to eliminate Toronto's Municipal Land Transfer Tax for homes valued at or below $1.1 million.
