For Delhi Airport, confirm the arrival terminal before selecting a metro route. Plan from that terminal to your hotel's entrance, with any interchange and final walk included. A journey labelled “airport to New Delhi” does not necessarily describe the route to your particular address.

Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 have different rail access
Delhi Airport identifies Airport Express access for Terminal 3 and Magenta Line access for Terminal 1. For Terminal 2, its guidance directs passengers towards Terminal 3 access. Use the terminal listed for your actual flight. Delhi Airport metro guide.
Do not buy a ticket merely because the station name contains “airport.” Match the terminal, line, destination and travel direction. Keep the airline's current flight information beside the route planner so that a terminal change does not go unnoticed.
Separate a terminal transfer from a city journey
Delhi Airport provides a Terminal 1 onward-transport guide, including terminal-transfer information. Consult that guidance when a transfer is needed; do not treat movement between terminals as a substitute for a complete route into the city.
| Planning field | Record before travelling |
|---|---|
| Flight and terminal | Current arrival terminal, checked against the flight |
| First rail leg | Station and line corresponding to that terminal |
| Interchange | Station name, next direction and available transfer time |
| Final access | Hotel entrance, useful station exit and walking route |
| Complete cost | All tickets and any road-transport connection |
| Backup | Alternative that reaches the same address if rail is unavailable |
The worksheet is our planning method, not an operator timetable. Check the official metro website linked from the airport guide for current routing and notices. Save the route date as well as the screenshot; an undated image can look more current than it is.
Compare like with like
Measure a rail option from the terminal exit to the accommodation entrance. Include the approach to the station, waiting, changes and walking. For a road option, include pickup waiting and any quoted supplements. Avoid assuming that a shorter train ride is automatically a shorter overall journey.
If you have large bags or need a route without stairs, check the specific station access rather than relying on a general description of the metro. Ask the accommodation which entrance is practical for your arrival and save its full address offline.
For a late arrival, the last train from the airport is only one constraint. Verify whether your connection still operates when you reach it. Prepare a separately priced fallback instead of assuming you can improvise the final leg at any hour.
Frequently asked questions
Does “New Delhi” identify my hotel destination?
No. Use the exact address and nearby station. A city label or railway-station destination cannot identify every neighbourhood or hotel entrance.
Should I move terminals to use a different line?
Compare the entire journey first. Include the terminal transfer and confirm current airport directions before deciding.
Are fares and connection times guaranteed here?
No. This guide intentionally uses a decision checklist instead of a fixed fare table. Current operator information and your actual arrival determine the available options.
This checkbox records your choice only on this device; it does not verify completion or notify anyone.
